Great Green Wall Challenge
This project is part of the pan-African effort to restore the savanna along an 8,000 km strip of land to slow the advance of the Sahara desert and offer local communities the opportunity to build a prosperous future.
Updates
The Sahel is a vast transitional zone between the Sahara Desert and the savannah, stretching across Africa from Mauritania to Ethiopia. In recent decades, climate change and drought have pushed this boundary southward, expanding the desert and threatening the livelihoods of millions.
The Great Green Wall: Africa’s Bold Response to Desertification
Launched in 2007 by the African Union, the Great Green Wall is an 8,000 km initiative to restore degraded lands, slow desertification, and create sustainable futures for Sahel communities. Trees and vegetation not only capture carbon but also support agriculture, improve water retention, and foster biodiversity.
Our Contribution: The Desert Leaves & Lignaverda Project
We aim to afforest 1,000 hectares in Senegal by planting 300,000 trees by the end of 2025, $focusing on species that provide both environmental and economic value. This project supports local agriculture, generates sustainable income, and involves communities directly in implementation.
